Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 16 July 2026
These terms explain the rules for using trichotillomania.com — including our free articles, the therapist directory, the newsletter, and the Parents' Guide. We've written them in plain English on purpose, but they're still a binding agreement. By using the site, you're agreeing to them.
If anything here is unclear, email us at hello@trichotillomania.com (or use our Contact page) before relying on the site or buying anything.
1. Who we are
trichotillomania.com is operated by IPSU VENTURES LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 12656961), referred to in these terms as "we", "us" and "the site". "You" means anyone using the site.
2. The most important section: this site is not medical advice
Everything on this site — articles, research summaries, the Parents' Guide, FAQ answers, emails, and anything else we publish — is educational information, not medical, psychological, or legal advice.
- The content is based on lived experience of trichotillomania and on published research, and we work hard to keep it accurate. But we are not your doctor or your therapist, and nothing here is a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or a substitute for care from a qualified professional.
- Never delay seeking professional help, ignore professional advice, or start, stop, or change any treatment or medication because of something you read here. Anything medical — including supplements, prescription medication, or swallowed hair (which can be a medical emergency) — is a conversation for a qualified doctor.
- Research summaries on the site describe what specific published studies found. A study finding is not a recommendation, and results described in a study may not apply to you or your child.
- If you or your child are in crisis or at immediate risk, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line straight away.
3. Using the site
You can browse the free content on this site for personal, non-commercial use. In return, you agree not to:
- copy, scrape, republish, or resell our content (see section 8 on intellectual property);
- use the site to harass anyone, impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your identity or qualifications (this matters particularly for directory listings);
- attempt to break, probe, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the site or its systems;
- use automated tools to bulk-extract content or directory data, including for training AI systems, without our written permission.
We can suspend or withdraw access to the site, or any part of it, at any time. We'll try not to, but we don't promise the site will always be available or error-free.
4. Digital products
The site sells digital products, currently including The Parents' Guide to Trichotillomania — a downloadable guide with accompanying worksheets, priced at £47. These terms apply to the Parents' Guide and to any other digital products we offer, unless different terms are shown at checkout.
What you're buying. A personal, non-transferable licence to download and read the guide and use the worksheets within your own household. You can print pages (like the teacher explainer) for your family's own use. You can't share the files publicly, resell them, redistribute them, or use them commercially — including in a professional or clinical practice — without our written permission.
Delivery. The guide is delivered by instant digital download after payment. If your download fails or your link doesn't arrive, reply to your receipt email and we'll fix it.
Payment. Payments are handled by a secure third-party payment processor. We don't see or store your full card details.
Immediate delivery and your cancellation right. By completing your purchase, you consent to immediate delivery of the digital content and acknowledge that your statutory 14-day right to cancel ends once the download begins. Our own 30-day guarantee (section 5) is more generous than this and applies regardless.
The guide is educational. Section 2 applies fully to the guide: it is education based on lived experience and published treatment approaches, not medical or psychological advice, and it is not a substitute for professional care for your child.
5. Refunds: the 30-day guarantee
We offer an unconditional 30-day money-back guarantee on the Parents' Guide. If it doesn't help, reply to your receipt email within 30 days of purchase and we'll refund you in full — no questions, no forms.
This guarantee is voluntary and sits alongside your legal rights. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
6. The therapist directory
The directory lists therapists and other providers who report experience treating trichotillomania and related body-focused repetitive behaviours.
For visitors using the directory:
- A listing is not an endorsement, recommendation, or guarantee. We vet listings against our listing criteria, but we cannot and do not verify every claim a provider makes, monitor the care they deliver, or guarantee their availability, pricing, suitability, or results.
- Your relationship is with the provider, not with us. Any therapy, advice, or treatment you receive from a listed provider is entirely between you and them. We're not a party to it and we're not liable for it.
- Always do your own checks: confirm the provider's registration with the relevant professional body in your country or state, and ask them directly about their BFRB experience. Our articles explain how.
- Directory information (credentials, locations, fees, availability) can go out of date. We refresh listings periodically, but verify details with the provider before booking.
For providers listed in the directory:
- You confirm that everything in your listing is true, current, and not misleading — including your qualifications, registrations, and experience — and that you hold any licence or registration legally required to practise where you offer services.
- You'll keep your listing up to date and tell us promptly if anything material changes (for example, if a registration lapses).
- Any fees, terms, and criteria that apply to listings are set out during the listing application process and form part of your agreement with us.
- We can edit, decline, suspend, or remove any listing at our discretion, including where we believe information is inaccurate, misleading, or harmful to visitors.
- You are responsible for, and agree to compensate us for any claims arising from, your listing or the services you provide to people who found you through the directory.
7. Newsletter and email
If you subscribe, we'll send you practical tips, new articles, and occasional product emails. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. How we handle your email address and other personal data is covered in our Privacy Policy.
8. Intellectual property
All content on this site — text, guide chapters, worksheets, page copy, illustrations, and the structure and selection of the directory — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other IP laws.
You may: read the site, share links to it, and quote short excerpts with attribution and a link.
You may not, without written permission: republish articles in full or substantial part, redistribute the guide or worksheets, copy the directory's data, or use our content to train AI models.
Third-party material we reference (like published studies) belongs to its own rights holders; we summarise and link rather than reproduce it, and you should go to the original source for the full work.
"Trichotillomania" is the medical name of a condition, and nothing on this site claims ownership of the term itself.
9. Third-party links
The site links out to other websites — research databases like PubMed, charities and support organisations, provider websites, and news sources. We link to them because they're useful, but we don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability. A link is not an endorsement.
10. Accuracy and keeping content current
Healthcare systems, costs, organisations, and research change. We date-stamp key figures where we can and re-verify content periodically, but we can't promise every fact on the site is current at the moment you read it. Where accuracy matters to a decision — insurance coverage, therapy costs, a provider's registration — verify directly with the official source before acting.
If you spot something wrong or out of date, please tell us at hello@trichotillomania.com. We genuinely want to know.
11. Limitation of liability
- Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
- Subject to that: the free content on this site is provided "as is", and we're not liable for losses arising from your use of, or reliance on, it.
- For paid products, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for the product concerned. This does not limit any remedy the law gives you for digital content that is faulty or not as described.
- We're not liable for the acts or omissions of providers listed in the directory, or of any third-party site we link to.
- We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for events outside our reasonable control.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time — for example, when we add products or features. The date at the top shows the current version. Material changes to product terms won't apply retroactively to purchases you've already made. Continuing to use the site after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales. If you're a consumer living elsewhere, you may also have protections under the law of your own country, and nothing here takes those away.
14. General
- If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- These terms, plus the Privacy Policy and any product-specific terms shown at checkout, are the whole agreement between us about the site.
- If we don't enforce a right straight away, we haven't waived it.
