My approach to Trichotillomania

Trichotillomania, or hair-pulling disorder, can feel frustrating, overwhelming, and difficult to explain to others. Whether pulling happens automatically, when you're stressed or anxious, or in response to a particular urge or sensation, you don't have to navigate it alone. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and focused on understanding the patterns behind the behavior rather than relying on willpower alone. Together, we can explore triggers, urges, emotions, and situations associated with pulling and identify practical strategies to help you respond differently. Treatment may include awareness-building, identifying patterns and high-risk situations, developing alternative responses to urges, and practicing coping skills to manage uncomfortable emotions and sensations. I also recognize that shame, frustration, and self-criticism can become part of the cycle. We'll work toward responding to setbacks with curiosity rather than judgment while building skills that support meaningful, lasting change. My background in anxiety and OCD treatment informs my understanding of repetitive behaviors, distress, and the challenges of changing patterns that can feel difficult to control.

About me

Hi, I’m Amy! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Alpine Calm Wellness, where I provide virtual therapy in Colorado, Iowa, and Michigan, as well as in-person therapy in Broomfield, Colorado. I specialize in working with anxiety and OCD and enjoy helping teens and adults better understand their brains, navigate difficult thoughts and feelings, and feel less stuck in patterns that are no longer serving them. My approach is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. Therapy is a space where you can show up as you are, feel understood, and work toward meaningful change without feeling judged. My goal is to help you spend less time feeling controlled by anxiety and more time doing the things that matter to you.

Additional Information

You don't need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. If hair pulling has become a source of stress, frustration, or shame, you deserve support that meets you with compassion rather than judgment. At Alpine Calm Wellness, I strive to create a welcoming space where we can be real, work through the hard stuff, and even laugh sometimes along the way. Therapy is not about being perfect or never experiencing an urge again. It's about building a better understanding of yourself, developing new tools, and making room for more of the life you want to live. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can connect, talk about what you're looking for, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
